Paramount
Hand drawn pen & ink artwork by Ben Holland.
The Paramount Theatre opened on Pilgrim Street, Newcastle on September 7th, 1931. With opulent décor, silk panels, period paintings, hundreds of motifs, statues, columns and drapery it was the very definition of ‘lavish’.
The Paramount’s reign was though short lived. On November 27th, 1939 all the Paramount theatres were sold to the Odeon chain, with the Newcastle venue duly being renamed in 1940.
